PhD Research Fellowship on Querying Big Data

PHD RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP ON QUERYING BIG DATA
AT THE NORWEGIAN UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY (NTNU)

One fully-funded PhD research fellowship is offered in the ExiBiDa project (http://research.idi.ntnu.no/exibida/) in the Data and Information Management Group (http://www.ntnu.edu/idi/groups/dif) of NTNU.

In ExiBiDa, we will focus on exploratory analysis and querying of Big Data, and develop frameworks and scalable techniques for supporting such analytical queries. In particular, the PhD candidate will work with challenges related to efficient algorithms and index structures for processing Big Data.

Qualifications:

  • A master’s degree in Computer and Information Science or equivalent with very good results is required.
  • A solid knowledge of database systems and algorithms and an ability/desire to publish in top database conferences (VLDB, SIGMOD, ICDE, EDBT, CIKM) are essential.

Since Trondheim is a bilingual city where almost everybody speaks and understands English fluently, candidates need not be afraid of a language barrier. The working language of the research group is English.

For more information, please contact Prof. Kjetil Nørvåg (noervaag at idi.ntnu.no)

PhD Research Fellowship at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology

PhD RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP WITHIN THE AREA OF QUERYING BIG DATA AT THE NORWEGIAN UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

One fully funded PhD research fellowship is offered in the ExiBiDa project (http://research.idi.ntnu.no/exibida/) at the Department of Computer and Information Science at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) (http://www.ntnu.edu/idi). The PhD candidate will be affiliated with the Data and Information Management Group (http://www.ntnu.edu/idi/groups/dif).

In ExiBiDa, we will focus on exploratory analysis and querying of spatiotemporal-textual contents in Big Data, and develop frameworks and scalable techniques for supporting such analytical queries. In particular, the PhD candidate will work with challenges related to efficient algorithms and index structures for processing explorative spatiotemporal-textual queries on Big Data.

Qualifications: A master’s degree in Computer and Information Science or equivalent with very good results is required. A solid knowledge of database systems or algorithms is essential.

Since Trondheim is a very international city where almost everybody speaks and understands English, candidates need not be afraid of the language barrier.

For more information, please contact Prof. Kjetil Nørvåg, noervaag@idi.ntnu.no

PhD fellowships available at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology

The Faculty of Information Technology, Mathematics and Electrical Engineering (http://www.ntnu.edu/ime) at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) has a vacancy for 6 PhD candidate positions at the Department of Computer and Information Science (http://www.ntnu.edu/idi). These positions are “free positions” in the sense they are not pre-allocated to particular topics or supervisors, the candidates with strongest background and best project proposals will be selected.

If you have an interest in one of the positions within the research area of database systems, please contact: Prof. Kjetil Nørvåg, noervaag@idi.ntnu.no

Please note that in order to be considered for a position within this research area, it is expected that the candidate has a research-oriented Masters degree (or is close to finishing) in database systems or related area like algorithms, distributed systems, or information retrieval.
