(Senior) Research Engineer – Network Management Automation

You will be working as a senior specialist with a focus on research of novel Radio Network Management/Self-Organizing Networks (SON) concepts. Your responsibilities include the development and integration of corresponding experimental systems and demonstrators.

Job Description

  • Analysis of NM use cases & requirements, review of the technology state-of-the-art
  • Design, develop, integrate and evaluate new NM concepts using simulation and evaluation of real network data, contribute to techno-economic (business value) analysis
  • Protect the work by invention reports, support for related standardization activities (3GPP)
  • Contribute to internal technology transfer to business units, participate in customer projects
  • Lead activities in funded research projects and collaborate with partner universities
  • Promote NSN’s thought leadership by publications in relevant conferences and journals

Requirements

  • M.Sc. degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field. A Ph.D. is a plus
  • Knowledge of Mobile Radio Access Technologies (UMTS, LTE(-A), WiFi)
  • Knowledge of Network Management processes (eTOM), architectures, protocols (e.g., SNMP), information models, functions (particularly CM and FM) and methods (e.g., policy-based management, statistical and probabilistic (e.g., Bayesian Networks) techniques)
  • Interest to understand and improve real-world network operation use cases
  • Background in Distributed Systems / IT & Software Technologies (e.g., CORBA, Web Services, UML)
  • Good practical SW and experimental skills (setup / installation of Linux/GNU-based systems, C/C++/Java/Script /matlab & R programming, development of experimental systems / demos)
  • Ability to work autonomously on complex research issues (project management experience is a plus), create IPR and publications (track record of relevant IPR and publications is a plus)
  • Fluent English, both written and spoken
  • Strong analytical and technical skills with focus on quality, innovative and open mindset
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to adapt to and work in international, multi-site virtual teams
