The vision of the Institute of Learning and Teaching in Higher Education at the University of Northampton is to enable transformational learning experiences through inspirational teaching. Research to practice is central to the Institute’s activities. We are seeking to appoint a full-time Research Assistant to contribute to and coordinate the research, development and consultancy activities of the Institute, internally and externally. The successful applicant will coordinate the Open Northampton project, which focuses on open educational resources and associated practices, and provide administrative support to the Institute of Learning and Teaching.

You will be educated to post-graduate level. You will have experience of a Higher Education research environment, particularly identifying funding sources and possible partners internally, nationally and globally. Evidence of previous significant contributions to drafting successful research bids is essential. With a good knowledge of the sector’s key funders and a solid understanding of learning technology in higher education, you will be an excellent communicator and creative problem solver. You will demonstrate an exceptional ability to explain complex ideas in a clear, non-threatening ways to diverse audiences, orally, in writing and through different online media.

Prior experience of research and development of open educational resources is essential, as is a very good understanding of IPR, copyright and licensing issues for learning and teaching materials in Higher Education. Experience in the provision of effective administrative support in a complex setting (preferably in Higher Education) and under pressure is also a requirement. With a high level of ICT literacy, the ideal candidate will have a track record of generating high-quality reports and other key documentation, as well as teaching and research resources in a range of formats.
